Travel House of Barrington
Since 1968, Travel House has helped residents of Barrington and beyond design travel experiences with outstanding quality and value. Whether you want to see the Seychelles, check out the cherry blossoms in Japan, or take the family to Disney, the advisors at Travel House will help you plan the perfect trip, your dream vacation, or business trip. Owner Eleanor Nelson purchased the business in 1989 from a gentleman who was retiring.
“I had small children at the time, but I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Fortunately I had an excellent manager, who spent three or four years teaching me the business.”
Half of Eleanor’s staff have worked with her since she purchased Travel House, earning their status as some of the most well-traveled advisors in the business. Eleanor herself travels to two or three brand new destinations per year, and rarely returns to the same place twice. She is particularly well-versed in travel to Asia, and says that Myanmar will be her next trip. Traveling several months per year enables Eleanor to stay on top of travel trends and new properties.
“I make sure to keep up with what is current for my clients,” Eleanor says.
If you have a specific trip in mind; from skiing in the Swiss Alps, to cruising the Caribbean; Travel House has an expert advisor who can help. Staff members are frequent international travelers, and Eleanor encourages them to try a new destination each time. More often than not, she also foots the bill.
“I want them to truly empathize with their clients’ travel experiences, and become specialists in certain areas and types of travel.”
Travel House also specializes in multi-generational trips, so they’re the perfect advisors to call if you’re looking to please parents and kids alike. They can help strike the balance between activities and relaxation, fine dining and family fare. Travel House agents are always happy to talk with clients over the phone, Skype, Facebook, or Twitter but the vast majority of communication is via e-mail, so clients’ time investment is minimal.
“We’re fortunate to have received so many referrals over the years that our customer base has expanded far beyond Barrington.”
Travel House has been well recognized for its achievements. For fourteen years running, they have made Conde Nast’s list of the top 100 travel agencies in the country, and they’re in excellent company. The agency was also honored to be invited to join the Virtuoso consortium of high-end travel agencies.
“This isn’t something we can apply for,” Eleanor says. “Our suppliers recommended us to Virtuoso, and our membership opens the door to all sorts of wonderful experiences for our clients.”
Virtuoso membership is a boon to customers, who benefit from Travel House’s exclusive access to onsite contacts in each and every destination.
“This relationship means that I can often make things happen that otherwise wouldn’t be possible,” Eleanor says.
If your room’s view isn’t as promised, she knows exactly who to call to rectify the situation. You can find the Travel House advisors in their beautiful upstairs offices in the Ice House Mall. Clients are welcome to call or stop in anytime – the advisors look forward to helping you plan your next adventure!
